Liverpool will reportedly compete with Tottenham Hotspur for Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze, who will be available for around £60 million this summer.
According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Eberechi Eze is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Crystal Palace playmaker is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, the Premier League outfit will point to the Englishman’s release clause of £60 million to part ways with him.
The rise and rise of Eberechi Eze
Eberechi Eze has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace from Queens Park Rangers in August 2020. The 25-year-old did not take long to get used to the pace and level of the top flight, almost immediately becoming a pivotal figure for the South London club.
The English midfielder has come leaps and bounds in the last four years while breaking into his national team. Eze enjoyed an excellent 2023/24 campaign, particularly in the final weeks of the season, amassing 11 goals and six assists in only 2,285 minutes of game time across 31 outings in all competitions.
Eze’s progress at Crystal Palace has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs in the Premier League. Recent reports have linked the Englishman with Manchester City and Manchester United. However, the latest update mentions Liverpool and Tottenham as his prospective suitors.
A big move within the Premier League on the horizon?
Liverpool’s interest in Eberechi Eze is somewhat surprising. The Reds have two top-class playmakers in the squad. Instead, the Reds need a more defensive-minded midfielder who can add a new dimension to the midfield unit at Anfield. Nevertheless, the Crystal Palace playmaker is a target for Liverpool.
As for Tottenham, the North London giants are scouring the market for a versatile midfielder who can also play on the flanks. Eze has thus emerged as a viable target for Tottenham, with the club ready to break the bank to sign him. However, the 25-year-old will not come cheap due to a release clause worth £60 million in his contract.
While £60 million will be a sizeable outlay, Eze has the qualities to justify the heavy investment. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool and Tottenham are ready to cough up the required sum to secure his services.
