Giovani Lo Celso open to Aston Villa move

Tottenham Hotspur midfield outcast Giovani Lo Celso is ready to reunite with former boss Unai Emery at Aston Villa.

According to Super Deporte via Sport Witness, Giovani Lo Celso is all set to part ways with Tottenham Hotspur in the upcoming transfer window and is open to a move to Aston Villa. Unai Emery is a big admirer of the Argentine attacking midfielder and wants him at his disposal at Villa Park.

Giovani Lo Celso moved to the North London club in the summer of 2019 following an impressive season at Real Betis. It was an initial season-long loan deal which was made permanent next summer. Tottenham forked out a significant fee to acquire his services. But the move hasn’t really worked out for either party.

After 18 months of struggle at Tottenham, he had multiple loan spells at Villarreal. While he was a part of Ange Postecoglou’s squad for the 2023/24 season, he hardly got any game time. Giovani Lo Celso was involved in 24 matches, but he was on the pitch for less than 600 minutes.

Frustrated by the lack of minutes, the Argentine international is on the lookout for an opportunity to try and revive himself with a move elsewhere. The 28-year-old is expected to be on the move in the upcoming transfer window.

Lo Celso to reunite with Unai Emery?

With Giovani Lo Celso being surplus to requirements under Postecoglou and just a year left on his deal, Tottenham will prefer sanctioning to recoup a part of what they had invested. While Real Betis are dreaming about re-signing him in the summer, Aston Villa have emerged as a strong competitor.

Villa are looking to further bolster their squad in the summer. Unai Emery managed to guide them to a Champions League spot last season and now he wants to add more quality and depth in his squad.

The Aston Villa manager is a big admirer of Lo Celso and is interested in once again working with the Argentine midfielder having done so during his time at Villarreal. The former Betis star had a great spell under Emery and could look to revive himself with a move to Aston Villa.

Lo Celso is happy to continue in England and is more than willing to make a move to Birmingham to play under the Spanish manager. A move to Aston Villa will give him the opportunity to be a part of an interesting project and once again feature in the UEFA Champions League.
