Emerson Royal close to agreeing personal terms with AC Milan

AC Milan and Emerson Royal are reportedly close to sealing an agreement on personal terms, with Tottenham demanding £20 million to sell him.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Emerson Royal is the subject of interest from AC Milan. The Serie A giants are scouring the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window. And they are closing in on sealing an agreement on personal terms with the Tottenham defender, who will cost around £20 million.

Emerson Royal and his topsy-turvy Tottenham ride

Emerson Royal has blown hot and cold since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Barcelona in August 2021. The Brazilian international endured a dreadful debut season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, compelling the North London club to delve into the market for another right-back, signing Pedro Porro from Sporting CP.

Porro has been the first-choice right-back since joining Tottenham, relegating the former Barcelona defender to the backup role. The 25-year-old managed less than 1,500 minutes of game time across 24 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with one goal. So, it is hardly surprising that Emerson’s future at Tottenham is uncertain.

Recent reports have claimed that the Premier League heavyweights are open to cashing in on the Brazilian full-back in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, AC Milan and clubs from the Saudi Pro League are keen on securing Emerson’s services, while Tottenham will demand around £20 million to part ways with him.

Serie A move on the horizon?

AC Milan’s interest in Emerson Royal is understandable. The Serie A giants are scouring the market for a right-back heading into the summer transfer window as they want more competition for captain Davide Calabria’s spot in the 2024/25 season.

So, several candidates, including Matty Cash, have emerged on AC Milan’s radar. However, the Rossoneri might have zeroed in on Emerson as the top candidate to be the new right-back, with the latest update claiming the two parties are close to sealing an agreement on personal terms.

Meanwhile, AC Milan’s technical director, Geoffrey Moncada, is in England to speak with various clubs. Armando Broja is one of the targets, while Emerson’s name is also on their agenda. It will be interesting to see if the Serie A giants sign the Brazilian international from Tottenham, although his price tag of £20 million poses a problem.
