Liverpool rule out Pedro Neto swoop

Liverpool are not actively pursuing a move for Pedro Neto amid his injury concerns and a hefty price tag placed by Wolves.

According to Ben Jacobs on Give Me Sport, Liverpool may not pursue a deal for Pedro Neto in the summer amid growing concerns about his fitness. The forward has suffered from at least three serious injuries in as many seasons, and Wolves’ £60 million price tag may not seem worth the risk for the Reds.

Liverpool to cool Pedro Neto’s interest?

Pedro Neto remains one of the lethal young wingers in the Premier League, and there is no surprise at the quality of clubs eager to sign him. The Portuguese forward dreams of playing in the Champions League, and for that, he has substantial suitors ahead of the summer.

Wolves want £60 million to sell the injury-plagued attacker, who has suffered three different and severe injuries in as many seasons. Last season alone, he spent four months in two different spells with a severe hamstring problem, which has cautioned some of those interested parties.

Arsenal are one of the sides keen as Mikel Arteta has identified him as one of the priority targets, while Liverpool was also strongly considering a move. The Gunners might find themselves in pole positions, as the Merseysiders are reportedly looking to bow out of the race altogether, as they are not open to taking a risk on the player.

Liverpool are concerned about Neto’s fitness issues from recent seasons and Wolves’ high asking price for the injury-plagued winger. Hence, according to Ben Jacobs, they are willing to cool their interest and look at other alternatives to the £60 million-rated forward.

Jacobs said, “Liverpool and Pedro Neto have been linked, but I’m told that’s not one that they are necessarily looking at, at the moment, partly because Wolves are going to insist on £60 million plus.”And also the player’s injury record at that price is maybe putting off Liverpool.”

Will Liverpool sign a wide attacker?

There is plenty of speculation surrounding the future of Mohamed Salah heading into the summer market, as the Egyptian could still leave for a Saudi Arabian club. They may have earmarked someone like Neto to be his replacement. But now that they are cooling their interest in the Wolves star, Liverpool might look at some of the alternatives.

West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus remains a target, while PSV’s Johan Bakayoko also features on their radar. The former may still cost way more than what Wolves want for Neto, although the latter will be a relatively cheaper alternative for the Reds.
