According to Fabrizio Romano, LA Galaxy have made a contract offer to outgoing Borussia Dortmund icon Marco Reus. The talks between the two parties have advanced, with a summer move to MLS on the cards for the UEFA Champions League finalist.
The versatile attacker guided Borussia Dortmund to the final of the UEFA Champions League this past season, but they were beaten by Real Madrid. Romano claims that the German attacker is currently in talks with LA Galaxy, and negotiations are advancing between the two parties.
Signing a player of his quality and experience on a free transfer would represent a major coup for LA Galaxy, and Reus will be able to embark on a new chapter in his career as well. The veteran has proven himself in European football over the years, and he has been an indispensable asset for Borussia Dortmund.
Apart from his qualities a footballer, Reus did well to endear himself to the Borussia Dortmund fans with his undying loyalty as well. While several stars have moved on from Dortmund in recent years, Reus choose to stay and fight for trophies with them.
The German attacker is undoubtedly a club legend and his departure will weaken the squad. It will be interesting to see if Borussia Dortmund can replace him adequately. Apart from his qualities as a player, his leadership qualities were invaluable to the Dortmund dressing room as well.
Reus will be a marquee signing for LA Galaxy
Marco Reus’s arrival will be a major boost for LA Galaxy if they can pull it off. Apart from the commercial appeal, he is a quality player who will improve the MLS side. In addition, he could be an ideal mentor for the young players at the club.
The MLS will be hoping to establish themselves as one of the finest footballing leagues in the world in the near future, and bringing in players like Reus will only help raise the standard of football in the country.
The German is in the twilight stages of his career right now and this is the right time for him to move on and try out a different challenge. A move to MLS where the intensity is far less compared to European football would be ideal for him. Reus would get to enjoy the remaining years of his career in a less demanding league. In addition, he is likely to pocket a lucrative contract in the MLS as well.
