Crystal Palace, Tottenham vying for Marcus Edwards

Crystal Palace and Tottenham are ready to make their moves for Marcus Edwards, with Sporting CP likely to sell the winger.

According to Football London, Crystal Palace and Tottenham are considering bringing Marcus Edwards back to the Premier League. Spurs might have a slight advantage owing to some clauses in the 25-year-old winger’s contract at Sporting CP, as the attacker could prove to be a bargain addition.

Palace, Spurs in Marcus Edwards chase

Crystal Palace might anticipate selling Michael Olise in the summer to one of the big Premier League sides and might have to find a ready-made replacement in the market. Sporting CP’s Marcus Edwards has now emerged on their radar, with the player once interesting Liverpool.

Edwards has been productive since moving to Portugal from Tottenham, where, despite Mauricio Pochettino’s praises then, he only managed 15 minutes of competitive action. He has been good enough for Sporting CP and did play an essential role in their title-winning season.

With Olise expected to leave, Edwards will be a crucial addition at Palace, who also faces competition from Tottenham. Spurs have been interested in Edwards for quite a while now, with suggestions that they considered bringing him back in each of the last two windows.

Sporting are open to a sale, with the 25-year-old versatile attacker having only two years left on his deal. They are targeting a price of just over £15 million, which will resonate well with them, considering how much they have invested. The slight dip in the valueation might have come due to Edwards playing more from the bench since the turn of the year.

Tottenham have an advantage in Edwards’s race

Tottenham has been keen on Edwards for some years now, and they are open to bringing him back. Spurs have a reported 36% sell-on clause in his Sporting contract. The report states they could potentially sign him for slioghtly under £10 million, which will seem like a cost-effective player transfer for their squad.

Moreover, Tottenham might look into a potential deal more seriously this time around as they do not have many homegrown stars ahead of their Europa League campaign. Edwards will count as a homegrown talent, and at the price he’s potentially available at, it will be a win-win situation for Spurs.
