High-flying La Liga club Girona will reportedly look to extend the loan deal of 21-year-old Barcelona midfielder Pablo Torre this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Pablo Torre is the subject of interest from Girona. The 21-year-old midfielder has spent the 2023/24 season on loan at the Catalan club in the 2023/24 season. The Red and Whites want to extend his stay at Estadi Montilivi by agreeing to another temporary arrangement with Barcelona.
Pablo Torre and his Barcelona travails
Pablo Torre has endured a frustrating spell since joining Barcelona from Racing Santander in July 2022. The Spaniard was one of the most highly sought-after young prospects in his homeland before joining the Blaugrana, with Real Madrid also vying for his signature two years ago.
Barcelona eventually sealed a deal worth €5 million to sign the 21-year-old from Girona in July 2022. However, Torre could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at FC Barcelona in his debut season. So, it was hardly surprising when the Blaugrana loaned him out to Girona for the 2023/24 season last summer.
However, Torre has not been a regular for Girona this season, not even amassing 1,000 minutes of game time in the 2023/24 campaign. The Spanish midfielder turned out 29 times while chipping in with one goal and two assists. However, despite Torre’s lack of game time, the high-flying La Liga club will look to sign him on another loan deal after clinching a top-four finish this term.
What does the future have in store for Torre?
Girona’s interest in extending the stay of Pablo Torre at Estadi Montilivi is understandable. The Red and Whites will participate in the UEFA Champions League this season, with an additional competition making their schedule more gruelling. So, they need enough options in every position, including the midfield department.
The Red and Whites are also in a spot of bother over Aleix Garcia’s long-term future. Recent reports have claimed that Dani Ceballos is a candidate to replace Garcia next season. However, Torre is also a viable target to bolster the midfield unit.
Recent reports have claimed that Barcelona might cash in on the 21-year-old Spanish midfielder in the summer transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if Girona will be open to a permanent deal or look to secure Torre’s services on another loan move.
