Manchester United in transfer tussle to sign James Overy

Manchester United will reportedly compete with Everton and West Ham United for 16-year-old Australian prodigy James Overy.

According to a report by The Sun, James Overy is the subject of interest from Manchester United. Everton and West Ham United are also interested in the 16-year-old Perth Glory prodigy. However, a move to Europe will unlikely see the light of day before the youngster turns 18.

Who is James Overy?

James Overy is one of the best young prospects in his homeland, having gone from strength to strength in the youth division at Perth Glory. A right-back by trade, the teenage prospect is a modern-day full-back and is capable of making an impact on both ends of the pitch.

The Australian full-back prodigy is only 16 years old but has already turned out for the under-21 team at Perth Glory. Meanwhile, Overy’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Manchester United, Everton, and West Ham United.

A kid in demand

Manchester United are renowned for constantly scouring the market for the brightest young prospects. That is one of the reasons they have one of the best academies in the world, producing highly-rated prospects every year. Recent reports have linked Manchester United with prodigies like Baylee Dipepa. Overy has now emerged as a viable target for the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, Everton’s interest in James Overy is understandable. The Toffees have the ecosystem to groom a young prospect as he will receive regular game time at the Merseyside club compared to a bigger outfit. So, the 16-year-old Australian prodigy has emerged as a viable target for Everton.

As for West Ham, the Hammers have been paving the way for some highly-rated prospects to receive regular game time in the first-team squad. In addition, other prodigies, like Flynn Downes, have become regulars at other clubs. So, Overy is an option worth considering for West Ham.

The opportunity to join Manchester United might be too appealing to turn down. However, Everton and West Ham United will hope to beat the Red Devils to the signature of the 16-year-old Australian prodigy.
