Barcelona establish contact as they look to sign Liverpool mainstay Luis Diaz in the upcoming transfer window.
According to AS via SportWitness, Barcelona are interested in acquiring the services of Luis Diaz ahead of next season. The Catalan giants want to reinforce their attack and the Colombian international is quite high on their wishlist. Their sporting director Deco is working on a potential transfer and has established contact with the player’s representatives.
Diaz made a name for himself while playing for FC Porto. On the back of his impressive performance for the Portuguese outfit, he ended up joining Liverpool in the winter of 2022 and hasn’t looked back since.
In the ongoing season, the versatile forward has been involved in 51 matches and has contributed towards 18 goals (13 goals, 5 assists). His consistent performances for the Reds have put him on the radar of Barcelona who are desperately looking for ways to bolster their squad.
While Diaz’s contract at the English club runs until the summer of 2027 and he has been an important part of their first team, a departure in the upcoming window can’t be ruled out. With Arne Slot replacing Jurgen Klopp, the Colombian winger’s future is not yet sorted.
Barcelona pushing hard for Diaz’s signature
As a result, Barcelona sporting director Deco who is leading the chase for the 27-year-old’s signature is pushing hard to make things happen. He has been making moves behind the scenes to make things happen and according to the report, he has already met the Liverpool star’s agent to discuss a potential transfer.
Deco wants to bring in a few leaders into the dressing room to improve the situation at the club. He feels Diaz could be an ideal signing. If the Reds do agree to sanction their winger’s departure, the Catalan giants will have to undergo tough negotiations to make things happen.
The Colombian is currently valued at €75 million as per the Transfermarkt and spending that big a fee on a player at this stage won’t be easy for the Spanish giants. Even if they manage to raise around €50 million from the potential sale of Raphinha, signing Diaz will take a lot of work.
