Crystal Palace are looking to knock on the doors of Luton Town for the services of Alfie Doughty in the summer.
According to a report from Give Me Sport, Crystal Palace are interested in acquiring the services of Alfie Doughty ahead of next season. The 24-year-old utility man has been in sensational form this season, and they feel he could be an ideal fit for their team.
Doughty joined Luton Town in the summer of 2022 from Stoke City. He played a big part in their promotion campaign last season and has been a consistent performer for them in their first-ever season in the Premier League.
Doughty’s rise at Luton Town
In his 42 outings this season, the left wing-back has contributed towards 10 goals (2 goals, 8 assists). He has been a constant threat from the left flank for the opposition defence, and his defensive work rate has also been up there.
Doughty’s performances have attracted a lot of attention, and Luton Town might find it very difficult to keep hold of their star. They are on the brink of relegation from the Premier League. If they do go down, clubs are ready to offer Doughty an immediate return to the top flight.
Getting relegated will result in a huge financial loss, which could see Luton part ways with their defensive star on the cheap. Crystal Palace are one of the clubs who are looking to make the best out of the situation.
Doughty could be Oliver Glasner’s first signing
The Eagles want reinforcements ahead of next season as they look to take the next step under Oliver Glasner. After an impressive start at the club, he is all set to make the necessary changes ahead of his first full season with the club.
Glasner is looking to add depth to the left-wing back position. While Tyrick Mitchell has been doing a great job in the role under Glasner, the Crystal Palace boss is still keen on having Doughty in his squad starting next season. His arrival will mean more competition for a place in the starting XI, and the Luton Town utility man’s ability in the final third will be a massive boost.
But, Crystal Palace are not the only English club interested in the 24-year-old, with other outfits also monitoring his situation, and they could also knock on Luton Town’s door.
