Aston Villa will reportedly look to speed up the talks to sign Gabri Veiga, a target for Liverpool, Barcelona, and Real Madrid.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, Gabri Veiga is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The 21-year-old has also been a target for several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid. However, the Villans want to quickly wrap up the negotiations for the Spanish midfielder’s signature.
Gabri Veiga and a surprising summer move
Gabri Veiga rose in prominence after breaking into the first-team squad at Celta Vigo. The Spaniard enjoyed a breakthrough 2022/23 campaign with the Galician club, with his exploits alerting almost every high-profile club across Europe, including Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
However, the 21-year-old shocked the world by joining Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli last summer. It soon became clear that he chased the riches of the Saudi Pro League, having signed a contract that paid him £200,000-a-week wages. But Veiga has managed less than 1,500 minutes of game time across 19 appearances in all competitions.
Despite not featuring prominently, Veiga’s stock remains high, with Aston Villa keen on signing him. The West Midlands club will part ways with Nicolo Zaniolo in the summer transfer window and will look to replace him with the Spanish midfield prospect. And the Villans want to speed up negotiations to secure his services.
A man in demand
Aston Villa’s eagerness to quickly wrap up a deal for Gabri Veiga might be stemming from the widespread interest in his services. Recent reports have linked the young Spaniard with Chelsea and Real Madrid. In addition, the report mentions Arsenal, Liverpool, and Barcelona as long-term suitors.
Aston Villa can offer UEFA Champions League football next season after qualifying for the competition this week. However, it is unclear if the West Midlands club will match his £200,000-a-week wages. That might not be an issue for some of his other suitors, especially Real Madrid.
Liverpool might view Veiga as a long-term replacement for Thiago Alcantara, while the Spanish midfield prospect can be the much-needed midfield reinforcement for Barcelona. At Real Madrid, he can fill Luka Modric’s void, with the Croat expected to leave this summer. It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa can beat the competition to his signature.
