Joselu close to sealing Real Madrid stay with permanent deal

Joselu will reportedly extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu by permanently joining Real Madrid from Espanyol in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Jose Luis Sanchez on El Chiringuito TV, Joselu will unlikely remain at Espanyol beyond the summer transfer window. The veteran Spanish striker is close to extending his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu by completing a permanent move to Real Madrid in the coming weeks.

Joselu and his dream return to Real Madrid

Joselu has been an exceptional performer since joining Real Madrid from Espanyol on a season-long loan deal last summer. The 34-year-old is enjoying a renaissance after spending his peak years being mired in mediocrity. However, his return to Spain has resurrected his stuttering career.

The Spaniard first rose in prominence during his spell with Deportivo Alaves, scoring goals for fun for the Basque outfit. A short stint with Espanyol followed, with Joselu’s performances being rare positives for another relegation-battling club. The veteran striker’s exploits did not go unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs before Real Madrid signed him.

The Spanish international, who has also risen in prominence for La Roja in the last 12 months, has amassed 16 goals and three assists in 47 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net once every 126 minutes. So, it is hardly surprising that Joselu’s exploits have convinced Real Madrid to extend his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Set for an extended stay?

The loan agreement with Espanyol contains a purchase option, meaning Real Madrid can complete a permanent deal by coughing up €1.5 million. So, Joselu will likely complete his return to his boyhood club by signing a new contract with Los Blancos. And the report by Jose Luis Sanchez on El Chiringuito TV has brought good news for the player and Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will soon confirm the permanent arrangement to secure Joselu’s services, with the Spaniard signing a short-term contract. Los Blancos will also announce a new deal for Lucas Vazquez, who will extend his stay at the Bernabeu.

Meanwhile, Joselu’s exploits also attracted interest from Premier League clubs like Manchester United and West Ham United. However, the 34-year-old Spanish international will remain at Real Madrid beyond the summer transfer window.
