Bayern Munich eyeing Adam Wharton swoop

Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in signing Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton in the summer transfer window.

According to a report from The Sun, Bayern Munich are keen on signing Adam Wharton. Crystal Palace value the young midfielder at around £60 million, and he was linked with a move to Chelsea a few months ago. The Blues wanted to sign him in January but failed with their approach.

Wharton has made quite an impression in the Premier League since his move to Crystal Palace, and it is no surprise that the top clubs are keen on him. The Bundesliga giants need a midfield controller who will add defensive cover to the side as well amid the uncertainties surrounding Joshua Kimmich’s future.

Wharton would be a superb acquisition for them, and it remains to be seen whether the Eagles are prepared to sanction his departure. They have only just signed the midfielder, and they are under no pressure to cash in on him. The youngster has a long-term contract with the Eagles as well.

Wharton could be tempted to join Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich might need to pay well over the odds to convince the Premier League club to sell Adam Wharton. As for the midfielder, a move to Bayern Munich would be an excellent step up, and he could be attracted to the idea of playing for the German club.

Bayern Munich are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they could provide them with the platform to compete for major trophies. Crystal Palace are certainly not able to compete at that level right now. So, the midfielder could well have his head turned if there is a concrete proposal on the table from the German outfit. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Wharton must choose his next destination carefully. There is no doubt that he has impressed in the Premier League. But he must play regularly at this stage of his career and he should only join the German club if they are willing to provide him with such guarantees.

The 20-year-old former Chelsea target is a key player at Crystal Palace, and he will not want to sacrifice that just to sit on the bench at a big club. Interestingly, he was also on Chelsea’s radar before moving to Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are currently on the up, and they have shown tremendous science of improvement under new manager Oliver Glasner. It will not be a surprise if the midfielder decides to stay at the South London club and improves further.
