Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are front-runners in the race for the signature of Bologna attacking sensation Joshua Zirkzee.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via SportWitness, Arsenal are keen on adding a new number nine to their squad in the summer and they have their eyes set on Joshua Zirkzee. The Bologna forward has made quite a name for himself and there is no shortage of interest in his services.
Things might not have worked out for Zirkzee at Bayern Munich but the switch to Italy seems to have done wonders for him. He made the move to Bologna in the summer of 2022 and has gone from strength to strength over the past two seasons.
He has featured in a total of 35 matches this season and has contributed towards 19 goals (12 goals, 7 assists). The 22-year-old has been in exceptional form and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
While his contract with the Italian club runs until the summer of 2026, he could be on the move in the upcoming transfer window given the amount of interest in his signature. Bologna are looking for a fee of over €50 million for the former Bayern Munich star.
Arsenal leading the race for Zirkzee
There might be a lot of interest in Zirkzee from across Europe but it seems Arsenal are the favourites to sign him. The Gunners are looking to bring in a new striker in the summer. Mikel Arteta is not happy with the output of his current forwards and he is keen on having someone who can guarantee goals.
As per reports, they are looking to sanction the departure of Gabriel Jesus and replace him with a new number nine. Meanwhile, Arsenal have been in regular contact with the 22-year-old’s representatives as they look to get the deal over the line.
The Dutch youth international is someone who has been in great form in front of goal and he is only going to get better with time. As a result, the Gunners are looking to bring him to North London. They have the financial strength to meet the Italian club’s requirements.
While Juventus are also in the mix, Arsenal are in a position of strength and there is panic in the Old Lady’s camp because of the English club’s financial capabilities to get a deal over the line without much difficulty.
