Liverpool are keeping close tabs on James Trafford ahead of the summer as they eye a backup to first-choice stopper Alisson.
According to Football Insider, James Trafford emerges as a target for Liverpool ahead of the summer. The Reds are eyeing a backup goalkeeper, signing choice stopper Alisson Becker, keeping the long-term future in mind, and could enquire about the Burnley man.
Liverpool eye James Trafford
Burnley made some progressive signings last summer when they returned to the Premier League, including a young James Trafford. The Clarets paid a hefty price for the former Manchester City star, and he has been a good addition, making 28 straight starts for Vincent Kompany’s side.
He has been dropped for the last seven Premier League games, as Kompany has preferred Arijanet Muric instead of the 21-year-old Premier League goalkeeper. In any case, there are no doubts that Burnley are planning the future with him, especially if they manage to stay up. Should they suffer relegation, the chances of some of their prominent stars leaving are high, including Trafford.
Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Trafford ahead of the summer, as they might enter the market for a new goalkeeper. They are looking to replace Caoimhin Kelleher, who has attracted Celtic’s interest in replacing Joe Hart.
Liverpool are demanding £20 million for Kelleher, and could reinvest that back in a new backup goalkeeper. In this case, they admire Trafford’s qualities and could enquire the keeper, especially if Burnley suffers relegation in May. The Clarets will demand a significant price, considering how much they have invested in the 21-year-old Premier League goalkeeper.
Liverpool looking for an Alisson deputy
Trafford and Liverpool have spread their network in search of a new deputy. Incidentally, apart from Kelleher, veteran Adrian is also expected to leave, meaning they might look for two goalkeepers. Kelleher has made many starts owing to Alisson’s injury issues this term, which may have helped the club improve on the Irish international’s valuation.
Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson remains a target, with Arsenal also chasing him. A few more are in the pipeline for Liverpool to consider during the summer window.
