Vitor Roque does not want to leave Barcelona on loan in the summer transfer window and has informed the club of his decision.
According to reputed Spanish journalist Toni Juanmarti, Vitor Roque faces an uncertain future at FC Barcelona after Xavi Hernandez decided to continue his stint in the managerial hot seat. However, the 19-year-old wonderkid has informed the Catalan outfit that he does not want a loan departure in the summer transfer window.
Vitor Roque and his Barcelona journey so far
Vitor Roque has had to bide his time since joining Barcelona from Athletico Paranaense. The Blaugrana had already sealed an agreement to sign the Brazilian attacking sensation. However, the timeline of his arrival in Catalonia was uncertain for several months before he finally completed the move in January 2024.
However, game time has come at a premium for the teenage prospect, who has several high-profile players ahead of him in the pecking order. So, the 19-year-old has managed only 310 minutes of game time across 13 outings thus far for Barcelona, although he has found the back of the net twice.
However, the youngster’s short-term future at FC Barcelona is uncertain heading into the summer transfer window. Widespread reports have suggested that a loan move might be on the cards due to his faltering game time since arriving in Catalonia. However, the latest update from Toni Juanmarti contradicts that notion.
What will happen in the summer?
The reputed Spanish journalist has claimed that while Xavi’s continuity in the Barcelona managerial hot seat might be detrimental to Vitor Roque, the Brazilian wonderkid does not want a loan exit. So, he has asked his entourage to inform the Catalan club that he will stay put beyond the summer transfer window.
Vitor Roque’s decision might be surprising. But with Robert Lewandowski on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the final phase of his glittering career, a sharp decline might be around the corner. So, staying put at FC Barcelona might benefit the 19-year-old attacking sensation.
The former Athletico Paranaense prodigy can also learn the ropes from Lewandowski before eventually succeeding the veteran Polish striker as the first-choice striker for Barcelona. In addition, Vitor Roque’s versatility will help him secure game time from the flanks if he does not start as a striker.
