Tottenham front-runners to sign Alessandro Buongiorno

Premier League heavyweights Tottenham Hotspur reportedly lead the race to sign Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno, valued at €40 million.

According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Juve, Alessandro Buongiorno is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Italian defender is also a target for several Serie A giants, with Torino demanding €40 million to sell him in the summer transfer window. However, the Premier League heavyweights lead the race to sign him.

Alessandro Buongiorno and his Torino journey

Alessandro Buongiorno has established himself as one of the most underrated defenders in Serie A in the last two seasons. A graduate of the Torino youth division, the 24-year-old had to bide his time before establishing a foothold in the first-team squad at the Turin-based club.

However, he has not looked back since becoming a regular for Torino, even making his debut for the Italian national side. The player has turned out over 100 times thus far for the Granata, chipping in with four goals and five assists. Meanwhile, Buongiorno’s progress at Torino has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs.

Recent reports have linked the Torino defender with several high-profile clubs, particularly from the Premier League. Premier League bigwigs like Arsenal and Chelsea have also shown interest in him. However, Buongiorno’s next destination might be another London club, with Tottenham Hotspur leading the race to sign him.

London calling?

Tottenham’s interest in Alessandro Buongiorno is intriguing. The North London club signed Radu Dragusin this past winter, while Micky van de Ven arrived from VfL Wolfsburg last summer to become Cristian Romero’s first-choice central defensive partner. However, Eric Dier does not have a future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In addition, the North London club will likely part ways with Japhet Tanganga in the summer transfer window. So, it behoves Tottenham to invest in a young centre-back to complete Ange Postecoglou’s central defensive arsenal. And the report has claimed that they lead the race to sign the Torino defender, who will cost €40 million.

While several Serie A giants are keen on signing the Italian defender, he will likely end up at Tottenham as things stand. But it will be interesting to see if the Premier League heavyweights are ready to cough up €40 million to secure Buongiorno’s services in the summer transfer window.
