West Ham United are reportedly among a long list of clubs chasing highly-rated Feyenoord frontman Santiago Gimenez, who is also on the radars of Arsenal and Tottenham.
According to Football Insider, West Ham United are ready to battle it out with Tottenham and Arsenal for the services of Santiago Gimenez.
Admiring glances from some of Europe’s giants should not come as a shock given his outstanding goal record, with the 23-year-old scoring 24 goals and bagging seven assists in 40 appearances this season for the Dutch side.
The Mexico international, who left Mexican side Cruz Azul for Feyenoord in 2022 for just over £5 million, has found the net 47 times in 85 appearances across all competitions since joining the Dutch side in July 2022, clinching the Eredivisie title in 2022–23 and the KNVB Cup in 2023–24.
He still has just over three years left on his contract at the Eredivisie outfit, which puts Feyenoord in a position of strength for any possible negotiations, but it seems he may be off to greener pastures in the not-so-distant future.
West Ham join Spurs and Arsenal in Santiago Gimenez race
The prolific Feyenoord striker has been linked with a move to West Ham, and there is also reported interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.
The Hammers have been keeping tabs on Gimenez for a while now and are looking to make a move in the summer. Veteran strikers Michail Antonio and Danny Ings haven’t been able to deliver the goods in the final third, and they feel a change is needed in the striking department.
While Arsenal, who were eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich last week, are still competing for the Premier League title, they are said to be looking for a natural striker, with false nine Kai Havertz and forwards Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah scoring a combined 24 goals this season.
Mikel Arteta’s side could be in for a busy off-season, with Arsenal linked with forwards such as Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, among others.
Ange Postecoglou and his team will be focused on reinforcing multiple positions on the pitch, but their priority will be to bring in a new number nine. They are looking for a proven goal scorer and have their eyes on Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.
Spurs are interested in his services, having decided against signing a new number nine last summer after the departure of their record goal-scorer Harry Kane. But they are expected to push hard for a striker this time out.
With Arsenal and Spurs in the mix, it will be interesting to see if West Ham can come out on top in the race for the 23-year-old’s services.
