RB Leipzig will demand full release clause payment to sell Dani Olmo

Manchester United will have to fork out €60 million to sign 25-year-old RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dani Olmo.

According to Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside, Manchester United will have to pay the full €60 million to sign Dani Olmo as RB Leipzig have no intentions of negotiating anything lower than his release clause. The 25-year-old has been in sensational form in the recent past and there is no shortage of interest in his services.

Dani Olmo’s time at RB Leipzig

Olmo was a part of the famous Barcelona youth academy La Masia. Things didn’t really go according to plan for him at the Spanish club but he has bounced back in some fashion. The Spanish international has gone from strength to strength since joining the German club in the winter of 2020.

The attacking midfielder has established himself as a mainstay in the team and he has been a standout performer for them in the recent past. In the ongoing season, the former Dinamo Zagreb star has featured in 23 matches and has contributed towards 13 goals.

Manchester United’s interest in Olmo

While he has struggled with a few injuries, the 25-year-old’s consistent performances have put him on the radar of multiple top clubs, Manchester United are one of them. The Red Devils are expected to push for multiple top players in the summer as they gear up for their first-ever transfer window under the leadership of new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Olmo is one of the names on their wishlist as they look to revive themselves after a poor season this time out. They feel he could provide competition to Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 role and his ability to feature on the flanks will be an added bonus for them.

Despite their interest, they will not find it easy to prise him away from Leipzig with over three years left on his deal. There is a €60 million release clause in his deal that becomes active in the summer and it could be used to trigger his release.

Romano on the Leipzig star’s future

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Olmo’s future: “Dani Olmo is having a fine season with RB Leipzig and so it’s not too surprising to see media reports of top clubs like Manchester United, Barcelona and Bayern Munich looking at the Spanish attacking midfielder ahead of the summer.”

“Still, it’s important to note that there have been no concrete movements yet, as far as I understand. Olmo could surely be one to watch this summer because there’s a release clause becoming active this year: €60m. This is the price for RB Leipzig – they have no intention to negotiate anything lower than that.

“But it’s too early to mention specific clubs now, as there are no concrete negotiations taking place, so we’ll see how this progresses in the next months.”

While Romano has made it clear that there is nothing concrete from Manchester United yet, the Red Devils surely have an interest in his services. But, since Leipzig have no intentions to negotiate anything below his release clause, they will have to trigger his release to acquire his services.

Given the fact that United are looking to reinforce multiple positions in the upcoming window, it will be interesting to see if they are willing to fork out that big a fee for the 25-year-old attacking midfielder.
