Tottenham are reportedly bracing themselves to receive “multiple offers” for fringe star Giovani Lo Celso, who is not happy with the lack of minutes under Ange Postecoglou.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham playmaker Giovani Lo Celso is set to force his way out of the club this summer after being left upset by his lack of minutes.
Giovani Lo Celso to force his way out of Tottenham this summer?
In a tricky campaign with a raft of injuries to key players during different stages of the campaign, Spurs have utilised a lot of their fringe stars. Indeed, Ange Postecoglou has used 30 different players across all competitions.
Due to injuries, certain players who would not normally be in Postecoglou’s plans have been forced to play.
That was the scenario for Lo Celso, who impressed Postecoglou back in the summer after his return from a loan at Villarreal, and so the manager elected to retain the 28-year-old’s services rather than allow him to leave.
However, Lo Celso would likely not have had an awful lot of playing time. James Maddison joined from Leicester over the summer, and his impact upon his arrival meant he would be one of the first names on the teamsheet when fit.
Postecoglou has also settled on his first choice deeper-lying central midfield pairing of Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr. With Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Oliver Skipp also on the books, Postecoglou isn’t short of central midfield options, and he had a settled XI up until November.
Then disaster struck as Spurs went through a midfield crisis, which opened the window of opportunity for Lo Celso, who scored back-to-back league goals against Aston Villa and Manchester City before chipping in with two assists against Bournemouth five games later.
With Maddison now back in the mix, Lo Celso’s minutes have dwindled, and the player has been upset with Postecoglou.
Giovani Lo Celso set to be in demand this summer
Despite his sporadic role at Spurs, it’s expected the midfielder will be sought-after this summer. It’s not yet clear as to which sides are lining up a move for him, but the suggestion is that clubs within Europe are going to be keen on the midfielder.
It has recently been reported that Real Betis, for whom the Argentine international played between 2018 and 2020, are going to try and re-sign him.
The 50-time capped Argentine international scored 16 goals in 46 appearances for the Spanish outfit and would be in favour of a return to Betis as he feels it would help him return to the top of his game and get back into the Argentina squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
