Aston Villa are interested in acquiring the services of the 24-year-old Benfica defensive midfielder Florentino Luis.
According to Ataque via SportWitness, Aston Villa could make a move for the services of Florentino Luis in the upcoming summer transfer window. The 24-year-old defensive midfielder is not happy at Benfica and is expected to be on the move after the end of the season.
Florentino Luis’s time at Benfica
Luis came up the ranks at Benfica and got promoted to their first team in the winter of 2019. After a few loan spells away from the club, the 24-year-old managed to establish himself in their first team. He has been an integral part of their team over the years but a lot has changed in the recent past.
He was a regular feature until last season but he has fallen out of favour under Roger Schmidt this season. The defensive midfielder has been involved in 38 matches but he has racked up less than 2,000 minutes.
Orkun Kocku and Joao Neves have been the preferred midfield pair and with Leandro Barreiro expected to join them in the summer, his game time might take an even bigger hit next season. As a result, despite having a contract that runs until 2027, Luis is looking to part ways with the Portuguese club.
Aston Villa could make a move for Florentino Luis
Aston Villa is one of the clubs that could make a move for him in the upcoming transfer window. They wanted to sign him last summer but the €40 million asking price stood in their way. Unai Emery’s team decided against signing him but they could return for him this summer according to the report.
With Luis not having a similar role at Benfica this season and him wanting a move away, his price is expected to come down and Villa could make the best use of it. But, it will be interesting to see if they do return for him as they already have a well-stocked midfield.
On top of that, they do not really have the best financial situation which will make things difficult unless they offload a few of their players. Meanwhile, there is interest from other clubs as well and they could return for his services in the summer.
