Newcastle United prepared to fork out €30 million to sign Robin Le Normand

Newcastle United are ready to offer €30 million for the services of 27-year-old Real Sociedad centre-back Robin Le Normand.

According to Mundo Deportivo via SportWitness, Newcastle United are looking to bolster their defence ahead of next season. They are looking to add more quality as well as depth to their backline by signing Robin Le Normand from Real Sociedad.

Robin Le Normand’s time at Sociedad

Normand has been a consistent performer for the Spanish club over the years. He came up the ranks at French club Brest before joining Sociedad in the summer of 2016. He started off with their B team and worked his way into the first team.

Since getting promoted to the first team in 2019, he hasn’t looked back. He has been everpresent in the heart of their defence and his recent performances have attracted a lot of attention. The 27-year-old has featured in 37 matches this term and has even contributed towards two goals.

His current contract with Sociedad runs out in the summer of 2026 and there is a release clause worth €60 million as per the report. While clubs are keen on his signatures, they are unlikely to trigger his release and will look to negotiate with the Spanish outfit.

While Sociedad are keen on renewing his contract, clubs will look to prise him away in the summer. Newcastle United are one of the clubs that are keen on having him in their ranks.

Newcastle keen on Normand’s services

The Magpies do not have much depth in the heart of their defence and with skipper Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman out injured for a long while, they are in desperate need of reinforcing their defence. The Tyneside club will look to sign multiple centre-backs and Normand is one of their targets.

He has proven himself over the years at Sociedad and could be a great addition to their squad. According to the report, they are willing to offer him €25 million as a fixed fee with another €5 million in bonuses. While they are willing to offer €30 million, the Spanish club values him at €40 million and it might not be enough.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are also keen on his signatures as Diego Simeone wants to bolster his defence. But, they do not have the financial strength to compete with the Magpies. In the end, a lot will depend on the player’s desire as he still has over two years left on his deal with Sociedad and they are also willing to offer him fresh terms.
