Tottenham Hotspur will loan out 20-year-old Argentine attacking prospect Alejo Veliz in the summer transfer window.
According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Alejo Veliz will not spend the 2024/25 season with Tottenham Hotspur. The North London giants have decided to part ways with the 20-year-old attacking prospect on a loan deal in the summer transfer window amid his struggles at La Liga club Sevilla.
Who is Alejo Veliz?
Alejo Veliz is a native of Godeken and spent most of his formative years in his homeland. He passed through the academies at three clubs in his youth career, graduating from the Rosario Central youth division. The Argentine prospect’s progress in his nation earned him interest from several well-known clubs in Europe before Tottenham snared him away last summer.
But the 20-year-old barely received any game time in the first half of the 2023/24 season, managing only 45 minutes of action in eight outings in the Premier League while scoring once. So, it was clear that he was one for the future after Tottenham only signed him as the long-term replacement for Harry Kane in last summer’s transfer window.
As the winter transfer window approached, Tottenham sought to haul Veliz off on loan to help him secure regular game time and resume his progress. Several clubs showed interest in the young striker before Sevilla came calling, securing his services until the end of the 2023/24 season.
However, the move has not paid off, with Alejo Veliz barely featuring for Sevilla since arriving at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium from Tottenham in January. He has managed only 23 minutes of game time across three appearances thus far. So, returning to Sevilla in the summer transfer window is impossible.
What Next?
Tottenham will seek another loan deal to help Veliz progress and achieve his potential before becoming a regular at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The North London club will seek guaranteed game time for the 20-year-old attacking prospect before finalising an agreement.
Veliz will also be eager to get his career back on track after barely securing any first-team minutes since arriving in Europe last summer. It will be interesting to see where the Argentine whizkid lands in the summer transfer window.
