Liverpool have entered the chase for Joao Neves, with the €120 million-rated increasingly coming in for high demand ahead of the summer.
According to O Jogo via Sport Witness, Liverpool have joined in the hunt for Joao Neves. The Benfica midfielder has seen several top Premier League sides chasing his signature, with the Merseysiders likely to fight it out with the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea for the €120 million-rated star.
Liverpool are interested in Joao Neves
Joao Neves already has some of the biggest clubs eager to sign him before the summer window, but the midfielder keeps his feet on the ground. Benfica are aware of the growing speculation surrounding their emerging star but remains protected by a mammoth 120 million release clause in his contract.
Considering some of Benfica’s recent high-profile sales, they have seemingly stuck with their asking price. For instance, they did not waver when Chelsea signed Enzo Fernandez or during PSG’s deal for Goncalo Ramos last January and summer, respectively.
In any case, they will remain firm that clubs must pay Neves’ contract’s €120 million release clause to sign him. Liverpool are the latest team to join the equation, and considering the level of clubs keen on the player, Benfica are reportedly trying to hand him a new deal with an increased clause worth €150 million.
Liverpool will likely enter the market for a proper holding midfielder despite signing Wataru Endo and Alexis Mac Allister last summer. They view the latter as an attacking player, while the Japanese international could continue to play a secondary role. The Reds will welcome a new manager, although there’s little doubt about the new man not wanting a player of Neves’ quality.
Liverpool faces competition for Neves
Liverpool aren’t alone in the hunt for Neves; they are by far the latest club to enter the chase. Even before January, Benfica demanded the full release clause from the likes of Arsenal, while Manchester City are also firmly in the race.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has green-lit a move ahead of the summer, with Manchester United one of the front runners to sign the €120 million-rated star. Benfica will sit back and wait for a battle to commence, where they are firmly in the driving seat.
