Barcelona will have to fork out €25 million to sign 24-year-old Dutch midfielder Mats Wieffer from Feyenoord in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Mats Wieffer is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The reigning La Liga champions have identified the 24-year-old midfielder as a top target heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Feyenoord will demand €25 million to part ways with him.
Who is Mats Wieffer?
Mats Wieffer has established himself as one of the best holding midfielders in the world in the last 12 months. A native of Borne, the Dutchman rose through the ranks at FC Twente before graduating from the club’s youth division nearly half a decade ago. But he has risen in prominence after joining Feyenoord in July 2022.
The Eredivisie champions paid just €575,000 to land the 24-year-old, who hit the ground running at De Kuip. He quickly became a pivotal figure for Feyenoord as the club won the Eredivisie title in the 2022/23 season. And Wieffer has added productivity to his game, chipping in with five goals and four assists in 37 appearances thus far this term.
Meanwhile, Wieffer’s progress at Feyenoord has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. A move to La Liga might be on the cards for the Dutch midfielder, with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window. Barcelona Want Wieffer
Barcelona’s interest in Mats Wieffer is understandable. The reigning La Liga champions bolstered their midfield unit last summer by signing Oriol Romeu and Ilkay Gundogan. So, it behoves Barcelona to invest in a holding midfielder heading into the summer transfer window, with Wieffer emerging as a viable target. But the Blaugrana will face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid. In addition, Premier League clubs are also interested in signing the 24-year-old.
