Tottenham Hotspur have started laying the groundwork for the signing of a new number nine in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on reinforcing their attack ahead of next season. Their priority is to sign a new top-quality striker and their former managing director Fabio Paratici is spearheading the club’s pursuit.
Spurs parted ways with Harry Kane last summer as he made the move to German giants Bayern Munich. The England international was the club’s record goal scorer but they haven’t replaced him yet.
While the club are well aware of the fact that he is almost irreplaceable, they are looking to bring in a top-quality striker to further bolster their squad and give Ange Postecoglou enough firepower to push for major titles next season.
They want to sign someone who can form an understanding with Heung-min Son and James Maddison to help them take the next step.
Need of a new number nine
Spurs have done well in the ongoing season, despite not bringing in a replacement. Son and Richarlison have been used up top and they have provided decent returns. But, in order to further bolster their squad, they do need a quality number nine.
They want to sign someone who has a physical presence, is good with his back to the goal and is exceptional in an around and box. In short, a complete striker and they have started to do the groundwork to ensure they get the best man for the job.
Paratici leading the pursuit
The London club’s former managing director Fabio Paratici will be leading their pursuit using his extensive contacts and expertise in the transfer market. While he might no longer be at Spurs, the Italian continues to assist on a consultancy basis despite new arrivals in key roles at the club.
He is trusted by their chairman Daniel Levy to get the job done. As a result, Paratici has already started making moves. They have created a short list of players they will target and as per the report, Brentford’s Ivan Toney whose future is uncertain is also on that list.
