West Ham United join Tottenham Hotspur in the race to secure a deal for Udinese full-back Festy Ebosele in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Italian outlet Udineseblog.it, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United have Udinese’s Festy Ebosele on their radar for the summer.
Tottenham’s season has been a rollercoaster this season. They were flying high at the top of the Premier League within the first couple of months, before a host of injuries meant they slipped back.
They are back to fifth in the table and could have a chance to go two points off Aston Villa in fourth when they next play.
Since the arrival of head coach Ange Postecoglou in the summer, Spurs’ full-backs have really stepped up and made a positive impact.
Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie have frequently been standouts, having been given the freedom to advance and take on more key roles when needed.
Between them, the pair have two goals and 10 assists in the Premier League during 2023–24. Emerson Royal and Ben Davies have deputised at times, but the duo are not on the same level as the Tottenham starters.
That said, Spurs have been looking at upgrading their supporting cast. They are one of the big names in the hunt for Udinese man Ebosele.
The right-back first rose to prominence with Derby County, where he appeared 41 times before being sold due to financial difficulties at Pride Park.
He has since established himself as a regular in the starting lineup, making a total of 19 starts and six substitute outings in Serie A during 2023–24, helping Gabriele Cioffi’s side steer clear of the relegation zone.
Ebosele has a contract at Udinese until 2027, yet his current employers are in a position where they could make a pure profit on him having acquired his signature on a free transfer.
Spurs may see Ebosele as a direct replacement for Djed Spence, who went on loan to Genoa in January after a disappointing loan spell at Leeds United.
Ebosele can operate as a wing-back, and his pace and power make him more suited to play under Postecoglou than Emerson.
Spurs are not the only club tracking the right-back, though. Other English clubs to have scouted him include Leeds United, Everton, West Ham, and Southampton.
Any move from the Hammers may perhaps depend on their plans for current right-back Ben Johnson, who has made just seven Premier League appearances this season, and is under contract until the summer.
