Manchester United rival Barcelona in Franco Mastantuono pursuit

Manchester United have entered the chase for Franco Mastantuono and are ready to rival Barcelona for the River Plate starlet.

According to ESPN Argentina, Manchester United could position themselves in the race for exciting River Plate talent Franco Mastantuono. Barcelona are also keen, with the Argentine club eager to tie him down to a new deal with a sizeable release clause.

Manchester United are interested in Franco Mastantuono

Franco Mastantuono, 16, has broken into Rover Plate’s first team setup and recently became the joint-second youngest goalscorer in Argentine football history with his strike in the 3-0 win over Excursionistas. Now, there is a massive interest in teenagers from clubs abroad.

Manchester United are among the clubs keen on the 16-year-old Argentine midfield sensation, ready to make an approach should all conditions suit their pursuit. There might be the odd case of young players allowed to leave at a certain age, something the Red Devils might have factored in during the chase for Mastantuono.

Manchester United are possibly aware of the cheap nature through which they can acquire one of River Plate’s promising talents. The Argentine giants are keen to hold on to their top talents and could work out a way to find a new agreement with the attacking midfielder over a new deal and a sizeable release clause.

To make matters worse for River Plate, Barcelona are also interested in Mastantuono ahead of the summer due to his potential availability on the cheap. They have already identified the 16-year-old Argentine midfield sensation as a good enough target for the future and could use their contacts to advance in the race.

Will Mastantuono leave River Plate so soon?

It has only been a matter of a few games that Franco Mastantuono has played regularly for River Plate. But that does not guarantee that he will keep his place in the first team. However, there is a big chance for him to cement a place here and become a regular, which could aid his development massively.

Should he take the chance and move to Europe, that development phase could suffer a blow. While the interest from Manchester United and Barcelona may have a considerable appeal, River Plate hope he signs a new deal and continues to develop his game with the Argentine side rather than move abroad before coming of age. But he cannot move to Europe before turning 18 anyway.
