Manchester United, Aston Villa, West Ham United keen on Alan Varela

FC Porto midfielder Alan Varela has reportedly attracted the attention of Premier League clubs like Manchester United, Aston Villa and West Ham United.

Alan Varela has been outstanding since joining FC Porto, and he has established himself as a fine prospect for the club. A report from Fichajes has claimed that Aston Villa, Manchester United, and West Ham United have now joined Liverpool in the race to sign the South American defensive midfielder, who has a £60 million release clause.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Liverpool as well. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United, Aston Villa, and West Ham United decide to make a move for Varela at the end of the season.

Manchester United need to sign a quality defensive midfielder, especially with the way Casemiro has performed this season. The former Real Madrid star has regressed massively, and Manchester United need a talented young defensive midfielder to replace him.

The Argentine midfielder is a prodigious talent with a big future ahead of him, and he could prove to be the ideal replacement for the Brazilian midfielder. A move to Manchester United will be a tempting opportunity for him, and the player is likely to be attracted to the idea of playing at Old Trafford next season.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa could use a quality defensive midfielder as well especially if Douglas Luiz is sold in the summer. The Brazilian has been linked with a move away from the West Midlands club, who will have to replace him adequately.

As for West Ham, they need to bring in an upgrade on Tomas Soucek. Varela would be a quality acquisition for them as well. The midfielder is reportedly has a £60 million release clause, and it remains to be seen whether his suitors are prepared to pay that kind of money for the player.

Varela would be a long-term prospect

The 22-year-old is likely to improve further with coaching and experience. He has all the attributes to develop into a top-class Premier League midfielder, and he could easily justify the investment in the coming seasons.

Meanwhile, Liverpool need to bring in a defensive midfielder as well. They have not been able to replace Fabinho and Jordan Henderson yet. Although they have Wataru Endo, they need a younger defensive midfielder who can be a long-term option for them. It remains to be seen whether they can beat their Premier League rivals and sign the Argentine midfielder at the end of the season.
