Manchester United are reportedly ready to part ways with 26-year-old Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Football Insider, Donny van de Beek might have played his final game for Manchester United. The Red Devils are ready to cash in on the 26-year-old in the summer transfer window. But Eintracht Frankfurt might not trigger the purchase option after his struggles thus far in the second half of the 2023/24 season.
Donny van de Beek and his Manchester United Frustrations
Donny van de Beek has seen his career come to a grinding halt since joining Manchester United. The Premier League shelled out £39 million to sign the Dutch playmaker in September 2020. But the investment has not paid off, as he has barely featured for Manchester United in the last three and a half years.
The 26-year-old was among the most highly sought-after midfielders in the world when he left Ajax after going from strength to strength at the Eredivisie outfit. But the move to Manchester United has been a disastrous decision by him. A loan move to Everton did not work out either, while van de Beek failed to regularly feature for Manchester United under former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman managed only 21 minutes of game time in the first half of the 2023/24 season. So, it was hardly surprising that Manchester United wanted to part ways with him in the winter transfer window. However, a permanent move was not possible due to his plummeting stature.
Bundesliga Move Proves Disastrous
Eintracht Frankfurt instead won the race to sign Donny van de Beek on loan from Manchester United in January. But the move to the Bundesliga has not worked for the struggling Dutch playmaker either. He has managed only 302 minutes of game time in six appearances thus far for Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Eagles have the option to permanently sign van de Beek for just £9.4 million, with an additional £2.5 million being add-ons. But the Bundesliga outfit will unlikely trigger that clause to extend the Dutchman’s stay at Deutsche Bank Park. However, Manchester United are ready to cash in on him this summer.
With the 26-year-old failing to justify the investment worth £39 million, it behoves Manchester United to cut their losses on him. But it will be interesting to see if any club will complete a permanent transfer and take a chance on van de Beek in the summer transfer window.
