According to a report by HITC, Manchester United are keen on reinforcing their defence ahead of next season and they have their eye set on Benfica’s defensive sensation Antonio Silva. The 20-year-old is considered to be a huge prospect for the future and the Red Devils continue scouting him ahead of a potential move in the summer.
Silva has been a mainstay in the Benfica defence over the past two seasons. He came up the ranks at some pace and made it to their first team in the summer of 2022 and hasn’t looked back since.
His impressive performances have attracted a lot of interest from across Europe and it has also helped him get into the Portugal national team. The 20-year-old is already a reliable force in the heart of the defence and he will only get better with time.
Silva: A priority target for United
As a result, the Red Devils are keen on adding him to their ranks. They have been scouting him for a while now and representatives of the English club were once again spotted in the stands watching Benfica in action on the weekend.
Scouts kept a close eye on Silva as his team eased past Portimonense (4-0) in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. His scouting reports are quite impressive and people at the club are convinced about making a move for his services.
The Red Devils have struggled at the back in the ongoing season. They lack depth and signing a new right-sided centre-back is one of their priorities heading into the summer. And, Silva is their most desired option amongst a few others.
The English giants will look to make a move for the €100 million-rated defender when the window opens after the end of the season. While they do have the ambition of signing him, the Red Devils will have a restricted budget in the summer. As a result, it will only be possible if they manage to offload a few of their senior players who are no longer in their plans moving ahead.
