Achraf Hakimi not planning PSG exit this summer

Manchester City and Real Madrid have reportedly been handed a major blow in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi, who is not interested in a transfer move in the summer.

According to AS (via Sport Witness), Manchester City and Real Madrid are interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Moroccan international’s contract with PSG expires in 2026, and his future at the club remains uncertain.

PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe has apparently informed PSG that he will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, and the Frenchman has been heavily tipped to make the move to the Santiago Bernabeu on a free transfer.

Should Mbappe officially make the high-profile switch to Real Madrid, reports suggest that the striker’s close friend Hakimi could follow his teammate out of the door. In total, the 25-year-old has contributed with 13 goals and 17 assists in 105 appearances for PSG across all competitions, including four goals and five assists in 25 matches so far this season.

Having established himself as one of the world’s best attacking right-backs over the last few years, he has no shortage of suitors, with Real Madrid and Man City keeping a close eye on Hakimi’s situation.

It makes sense that Real Madrid are interested in Hakimi. The right-back position will need reinforcing in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad in the coming years, especially when considering that Lucas Vazquez himself will be out of contract this summer and 32-year-old Dani Carvajal follows suit in 2025.

Carvajal is having a great season, as Los Blancos currently top La Liga, but he will need to succeed at some point. Hakimi is held in high regard at the club given that he came through the Castilla academy ranks.

The 25-year-old even spent a season with the Merengues’ first-team setup, in 2017/18, and even won the Champions League. Hakimi’s attacking prowess and defensive solidity make him an ideal successor.

Man City, too, are reportedly interested in Hakimi’s services. The treble winners understand Hakimi’s versatility and attacking instincts would complement their fluid style of play, and they would presumably only ramp up their interest in the right-back if captain Kyle Walker were to leave in the near future.

Achraf Hakimi wants to fulfil his contract until 2026.

Despite Man City and PSG’s interest, Hakimi’s future remains in his own hands. And according to AS, Hakimi has no plans to leave PSG this summer or next year and wants to fulfil his contract, which expires in 2026.

PSG, for their part, want to renew the 25-year-old’s contract and has informed his representatives of the same, but negotiations have not moved further beyond that.

There were some concerns about the Moroccan right-back’s future last summer, but things calmed down after Luis Enrique took over as manager, and Hakimi has played an important part in the club.

However, no actual conversations have taken place over his extension, which appears to have alerted elite clubs across Europe.
