Deco reportedly wants Barcelona to launch a summer move for 22-year-old Brazilian international Vanderson, whose price tag is €50 million.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Vanderson is the subject of interest from Barcelona. Deco is driving the potential move for the Brazilian international heading into the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, AS Monaco will demand around €50 million to part ways with the young full-back.
Who is Vanderson?
Vanderson has established himself as one of the best young full-backs in the world since joining AS Monaco. The 22-year-old spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the Gremio youth division. That is where he rose in prominence, with many European bigwigs setting their sights on him.
Eventually, AS Monaco won the race to sign the youngster from Gremio in January 2022. Since then, the Brazilian right-back has come leaps and bounds, making his debut for the Selecao while becoming a regular for AS Monaco. He has turned out 78 times thus far for the Principality club, chipping in with five goals and nine assists.
Meanwhile, Vanderson’s progress in the last two years has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester United and Real Madrid have recently shown interest in the young full-back. But his next destination might be Barcelona, with Deco pushing to bring him to Catalonia. And AS Monaco will demand €50 million to sell him.
Barcelona Calling?
Barcelona considered signing Vanderson from AS Monaco last summer before zeroing in on Joao Cancelo as the right-back reinforcement. That meant they decided to shelve the move for the Brazilian international until the 2024 summer transfer window. And Barcelona’s continued interest in him is understandable.
While Cancelo has been an excellent performer for Barcelona this season, the negotiations to complete a permanent move for the Portuguese international are complicated. So, it behoves the reigning La Liga champions to keep their options open, with Vanderson’s name featuring on their shortlist.
With Deco driving the potential move for Vanderson, a summer move might be on the cards. But paying €50 million to land the Brazilian international might be beyond Barcelona’s means. So, it will be interesting to see if the Blaugrana can drive down the price in the coming months.
