Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on having 28-year-old Aston Villa star striker Ollie Watkins in his ranks at Arsenal.
According to a report by Fichajes, Arsenal are keen on bolstering their attack ahead of next season, and they have their eyes set on Ollie Watkins. The 28-year-old Aston Villa striker is a proven goal scorer, and the Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta wants him in his ranks at all costs.
Ollie Watkins’s rise at Brentford
After proving himself at Brentford, Watkins joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2020. He has gone from strength to strength since making the move and of late, the English forward has been playing the best football of his life.
He has featured in a total of 151 matches for the club and has contributed towards 86 goals so far. Watkins has established himself as one of the mainstays in the team, and he has been a consistent performer over the past few seasons.
In the ongoing campaign, he has 30 goal contributions in his 35 outings. The Aston Villa striker has found the back of the net on 18 occasions and is eager to add to it before the end of the season. His impressive display has not gone unnoticed and Arsenal are one of the clubs that would love to have him.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Ollie Watkins
Mikel Arteta is not really happy with the output of his strikers. He wants someone who can guarantee him goals and is looking to sign someone with a different profile than those already present in his squad. Watkins is a striker the Spanish manager admires, and he has asked Arsenal to land him at the club.
He has all the qualities that Arteta wants in a new number nine, someone who has an eye for the goal, is good in the air and has a physical presence as well as speed. While the Gunners are keen, it won’t be easy to sign him.
Watkins still has over four years left on his deal with Aston Villa. They have been excellent of late and have no intention of selling him at this stage. He is their most prized possession, and convincing Unai Emery’s team to sell him will take a lot of work. They might need to make an offer in excess of €100 million to sign the 28-year-old Villa star.
