Manchester United are reportedly open to parting ways with Antony in the summer transfer window, but there is no market for him.
According to Dean Jones on Give Me Sport, Antony faces an uncertain future at Manchester United. The Red Devils are open to cashing in on the Brazilian international in the summer transfer window. But his transfer fee of £80 million and £200,000-a-week wages mean he does not have a market right now in his current form.
Antony and his Manchester United Rollercoaster Ride
Antony has blown hot and cold since joining Manchester United from Ajax in August 2022. The 23-year-old was highly sought-after in the market when he arrived at Old Trafford. But shelling out £80 million to secure his services seemed preposterous around that time, with the scouting department valuing him at around £25 million.
Manchester United also handed him a long-term contract that had £200,000-a-week wages. But the Brazilian international has been dreadful in the last 18 months, especially in the 2023/24 season. He has a paltry tally of one goal and one assist in 25 appearances thus far this term.
So, it is hardly surprising that Antony’s long-term future at Old Trafford is uncertain, with widespread reports linking him with a departure. Recent updates pointed to Manchester United offering the former Ajax attacker and Jadon Sancho to Saudi Pro League clubs.
An Uncertain Future Beckons
Antony thus faces a crucial second half of the 2023/24 season, although he has lost his spot as the first-choice right-winger at Manchester United. With Alejandro Garnacho uprooting him in the position, the Brazilian international can leave Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
The report by Dean Jones has revealed that the Red Devils are open to parting ways with the 23-year-old and “would sell him if they could”. But the struggling winger has no market right now due to his long-term contract and £200,000-a-week wages. So, in his current form, he cannot appeal to any club heading into the summer transfer window.
A move to the Saudi Pro League might still be possible. But Antony might not be open to moving to the Middle East at the current stage of his career. So, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United and the player can generate a market in the summer transfer window.
