Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon will be sold permanently at the end of the season and the Premier League club has already set his asking price.
According to a report from Football Insider, Leeds United will have to pay a fee in the region of £10-15 million to sign the Welsh international defender.
Rodon has established himself as a key player for the Championship club and multiple Premier League clubs are keen on securing his services. Several clubs tried to sign him in January but they decided not to meet Tottenham’s valuation of the defender. It will be interesting to see if Leeds are ready to pay up for him at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old central defender is not a key part of Ange Postecoglou’s first-team plans and therefore it makes sense for Tottenham to cash on him permanently during the summer transfer window. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and returning to the north London club would not be ideal for him.
It will be interesting to see if the defender can help Leeds finish the season strongly and secure promotion back to the Premier League. If he can help the Whites return to the top flight, they might be able to shell out the money required to sign him permanently.
Rodon has dropped further down the pecking order
Tottenham have signed Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin and Ashley Phillips to bolster their defensive ranks this season. Rodon on has fallen further down the packing order at the north London club and it makes no sense for him to return in the summer.
He should look to continue performing at a high-level so that he can secure a respectable move in the summer. There is no doubt of the 26-year-old defender is good enough to play in the Premier League, but he needs to join the club where he will get regular first-team action and he will be a valued asset for the manager.
As for Tottenham, they need to aim for players with higher calibre so that they can compete for major trophies in the coming seasons.
