Real Madrid have been linked with a move for the Manchester City defender Yan Couto at the end of the season.

The 21-year-old Brazilian defender is currently on loan at Girona and his performance against Real Madrid has reportedly forced Los Blancos to reconsider their move for the player as per Fichajes. The 21-year-old defender struggled against Vinicius Junior, who caused all sorts of problems for his compatriot.

Regardless of the performance against Real Madrid, Couto has been quite impressive in La Liga this season and he has two goals and seven assists to his name across all competitions. Girona have excelled as a team this season and Couto has been a key player for them.

He is expected to leave Manchester City permanently at the end of the season and Real Madrid were hoping to bring him in. It will be interesting to see if the Spanish giants decide to move on to other targets now. There is no doubt that they need to bring in a quality right back at the end of the season. Dani Carvajal is at the twilight stage of his career and the Spanish international will have to be replaced adequately.

Real Madrid should take Yan Couto gamble

Meanwhile, Couto wants to play for a big club in the coming years and the opportunity of joining Real Madrid would have been an exceptional chance for him. The 21-year-old does not have a future at Manchester City and the Premier League champions will probably hope to sell him permanently at the end of the season.

It will be interesting to see if the 21-year-old can secure a move to respectable club.

The Brazilian is still quite young and he is likely to improve with coaching and experience. He could develop into a key player for the biggest clubs in the world with the right guidance. If he is available for a reasonable price during the summer transfer window, Real Madrid should look to take a gamble on him. Letting him join another club could leave the Spanish giants regretting their decision in the near future.

Couto is a prodigious talent for the big future ahead of him and the 21-year-old is far from reaching his peak right now.
