Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the services of the 27-year-old Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Newcastle United are preparing themselves for a summer transfer window that promises to bring a lot of changes at the club. The Magpies had restricted financial power during the recently-concluded window but will be free to spend in the summer, and Bournemouth’s Philip Billing is one of their targets.
The Rise of Philip Billing
Billing came up the ranks at Huddersfield Town before moving to Bournemouth in the summer of 2019. He has gone from strength to strength since and has featured in 181 matches. The 27-year-old prefers playing as a central midfielder but has been used as a defensive midfielder as well as an attacking one. He has contributed towards 51 goals over the years.
He might not be in the limelight but he has been a consistent performer for them and has become one of their mainstays. While his contract with Bournemouth runs until the summer of 2027, there is interest in his services from Newcastle United, and they could make a move in the summer.
Newcastle United Eyeing Philip Billing
Eddie Howe’s team wanted to reinforce their midfield in the winter. They lacked depth in that area, and Sandro Tonali’s eight-month-long ban came as a big blow to them. While Howe was interested in having Billing in their ranks, a move could not happen in January.
The Magpies will return for him in the summer, they see the 27-year-old as a bargain option to bolster their midfield. The Danish international has a lot of experience of playing in the Premier League, is a consistent performer and can feature in multiple positions. Given the kind of abilities he has, he will surely add quality as well as depth to their ranks.
Joelinton has been in sensational form since moving into the midfield and seems to have taken his game to the next level. But, the 27-year-old could part ways with the Magpies in the summer. His contract runs out in the summer of 2025, but his wage demands suggest Newcastle will look to sell in the next transfer window.
Joelinton’s departure could leave a significant void which can be filled by Billing. The Bournemouth midfielder could be an ideal replacement and will cost around £15 million.
