Manchester United are reportedly ready to award Kobbie Mainoo with a bumper new contract following his advent this season.
According to a report by HITC, Kobbie Mainoo has impressed Sir Jim Ratcliffe with his performances this season. The British businessman is ready to sanction a bumper new contract for the highly-rated 18-year-old midfield sensation. And the Red Devils have already spoken to him about a new deal.
Kobbie Mainoo is one of the best young prospects in England. A native of Stockport, he began his youth career at Cheadle & Gatley Junior before joining Manchester United as a nine-year-old. Since then, he has progressed through the ranks rapidly to break into the first-team squad at Old Trafford in less than a decade.
The 18-year-old made his first-team debut in January 2023 and made a few appearances last term. But he has grown in stature this term, turning out 16 times thus far while chipping in with two goals and two assists. The youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, and he will soon get a new contract.
Reports in December suggested Manchester United were ready to hike his wages while retaining the term of his current contract. But the latest update has revealed that Manchester United will hand Kobbie Mainoo a new deal, which should extend the duration of his stay at Old Trafford.
Mainoo’s “brave” performances have impressed the decision-makers at Manchester United, most importantly new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. And the British billionaire, who will oversee football operations, has sanctioned the new contract for the teenage midfield sensation.
Manchester United’s decision will also detract potential suitors, considering recent reports linked Kobbie Mainoo with Manchester City. Meanwhile, the report claims that the Red Devils have already initiated the move to tie the youngster to a new deal, having already spoken to his entourage about the contract.
It will be interesting to see how quickly Manchester United can tie Mainoo to a new contract. But it is hardly surprising that the highly-rated 18-year-old midfield prospect to a renewal after his excellent and “brave” performances in the 2023/24 season thus far.
