Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are interested in acquiring the services of 22-year-old Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.
According to a report by Daily Telegraph, Atletico Madrid are looking to reinforce their attack next summer, and they have their eyes on Mason Greenwood. The 22-year-old has been doing wonders for Getafe in La Liga, and there is a lot of interest in his services.
Mason Greenwood Resurrecting his Career
Getafe gave Greenwood an opportunity to revive himself when they signed him from Manchester United on a season-long loan last summer. Even after the charges including attempted rape and assault were dropped, the Red Devils decided to conduct an internal enquiry on the 22-year-old.
Six months down the line, when the enquiry ended, they decided that he should continue his career elsewhere and that it was best for both parties. Manchester United sent him out on a season-long loan and Getafe managed to strike a deal for him.
Since joining the Spanish club, the Manchester United academy graduate has featured in a total of 22 matches and has contributed towards 11 goals. He has featured everywhere in attack and has seven goals and four assists to show for it.
Suitors Increasing
His impressive performances have caught the eyes of quite a few clubs. Barcelona are one of the clubs that have been linked with the 22-year-old, but they do not have the best of financial conditions. Meanwhile, the player is expected to return to his parent club in the summer.
Greenwood still has a year left on his deal with the Red Devils. But they are unlikely to reinstate him in their first team. There is no clarity over how much he is worth given the fact that only a year remains on his deal and it has not even been a year since his return.
Irrespective of that, Atletico Madrid are keen on his signatures. They wanted to bolster their attack in the winter and were closing in on the signatures of Moise Kean. Unfortunately, the deal fell off. The desire to reinforce their attack remains intact, and Los Rojiblancos are now looking to land Greenwood.
He is young and capable enough to feature in the starting XI right from the start. The Manchester United forward could be the leader of their attack for years. But they are not the only ones interested and will have to battle it out for his signatures.
