Aston Villa are ready to part ways with their 30-year-old left-back Lucas Digne after the end of the season.
According to a report by Fichajes, Aston Villa are ready to negotiate the departure of Lucas Digne. The English club will look to reduce their squad size and plan for the long term in the summer. While the 30-year-old is a first-team regular at this stage, Unai Emery’s team are ready to let him leave.
After making a name for himself in England while playing for Everton, Digne made the move to Aston Villa in the winter of 2022. Since joining Villa, he has featured in a total of 73 matches and has also contributed towards 12 goals.
He remains an integral part of their first team under Emery. The 30-year-old has featured in a total of 26 matches this season, he has racked up over 2000 minutes of first-team action and has also contributed towards six goals. He has played a big part in their incredible run in the Premier League.
But, despite being an important part of their first team and still having more than two years left on his deal, Villa are ready to sanction the departure of the French international. He is already 30 and their desire to plan for the long term could be one of the reasons why they are ready to cash in on him.
While they haven’t figured out who will be the replacement, they do feel it is the right time to part ways with him. He is one of the team’s highest-paid players in the English club with a wage of £120,000 a week and his departure could be a significant financial boost for them.
It is not just Digne whose future at the club is uncertain, there are multiple other players who might not have a future at the club beyond the summer. Emery has done wonders for them but for his team to take the next step, they will have to plan for the future and do exceptional business in the transfer window. Cashing in on the 30-year-old and reinvesting it to sign someone younger could be a masterstroke for them.
