West Ham United could be offered the chance to bring Jonathan Clauss from Marseille, with complications rising with the Frenchman’s future.
According to L’Equipe via Sport Witness, intermediaries could offer Jonathan Clauss to West Ham United to get rid of the 31-year-old French international from Marseille. The right-back could become an option for David Moyes to consider, although any move looks unlikely so late in the window.
Jonathan Clauss offered to West Ham?
There have been some suggestions that West Ham United has considered signing a new right-back in this window but without any concrete links to any player. Some stories have mentioned them as suitors for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the Manchester United star is certain to remain at Old Trafford.
David Moyes has one eye on developments in that right-back position, as his two preferred players are out of contract in the summer. Vladimir Coufal can still extend by another season, and his performances this term certainly deserve that. However, there are doubts about Ben Johnson’s long-term future at the London Stadium.
Now, with that in mind, the name of Jonathan Clauss has come up with links to the Hammers. As per reports in France, Marseille have alerted their intention to get rid of the 31-year-old French international, with intermediaries then offering the player to West Ham.
Clauss is accused of not giving his 100% for Marseille as he wants to stay fresh for France’s Euro 2024 campaign. To his credit, Didier Deschamps has selected him for the last four international clashes, and he does stand a chance to make the cut.
However, as for the Hammers’ link, the chances of him arriving in London on the final day of the transfer window are slim to none.
West Ham are keen on a new attacker.
While a new right-back may not arrive on the final day, Moyes hopes an attacker does. West Ham have been looking for an unknown attacker, with Said Benrahma close to joining Lyon. They have already seen a move for Ibrahim Osman collapse, but the Hammers boss has another target in mind.
He had also hoped to sign Jota from Al-Ittihad, but the Saudi transfer window closes tonight, meaning the chances of either star arriving are none.
