Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to sign PSG outcast Hugo Ekitike before deadline day, but the Red Devils have rejected the chance to take him on loan.

According to Teamtalk, Manchester United have turned down the chance to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Hugo Ekitike on loan in the ongoing winter transfer window.

Ekitike has found minutes hard to come by at PSG this season, partly due to a number of fitness issues. He has not played since the opening day of the Ligue 1 season and is well out of Luis Enrique’s plans for the Parisians.

PSG have been trying to offload the striker for several weeks, but with just over 24 hours left in the window, the forward is still in the French capital. Eintracht Frankfurt have been in talks to sign him, but they do not want to exceed their financial limit for a deal. The French heavyweights also tried to offer the striker to one of the biggest Premier League clubs, Manchester United.

He bagged three league goals and four assists in 25 Ligue 1 games last term, but it was his form in his last season with Reims that attracted him to PSG. Ekitike notched ten goals and three assists in 24 league games in 2021/22, and he could have been a decent loan signing for Manchester United given his huge potential.

The Red Devils are reportedly in the market for attacking additions. Due to his premature surgery for a groin injury, Anthony Martial will not be available for the Red Devils until mid-April and will be leaving the club this summer, so a new forward is certainly on their agenda before the deadline day, with Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund the only options at Erik ten Hag’s disposal.

There have been links to Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson and Bayern Munich’s Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, but with those moves now deemed financially unviable, and after turning down the chance to sign Ekitike on loan, it looks like United will end the window without an addition up top.

Ekitike could yet move clubs on deadline day, but faces a race against the clock to secure a move away from Paris.
