Aaron Wan-Bissaka unlikely to leave Manchester United in January

Manchester United open preliminary contract renewal talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Manchester United reportedly do not plan to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka to this month amid strong interest from Saudi Pro League giants Al-Nassr.

According to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook via GIVEMESPORT, Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford during the January transfer window, but he could end up signing a new long-term contract to prolong his stay at the club instead.

Crook told GMS: “I think that’s gone as far with him and Casemiro, the Saudi Pro League chiefs have spoken to intermediaries working on behalf, definitely of Casemiro, and I think Wan-Bissaka’s name has come up as well. Man Utd are telling me that they don’t envisage a scenario where Wan-Bissaka goes in this window. I think probably because they’ve taken up the year option on his contract, they’ll probably look to try and extend him to a longer-term deal on a reduced salary. I think he’s actually done quite a good job for Erik ten Hag and he’s been one of the more consistent players.”

The Red Devils’ have a decision to make when it comes to defender Wan-Bissaka. The right-back’s contract at Old Trafford had been due to expire this summer, however United have since triggered an option in his contract that will see him stay until at least the summer of 2025. But that solves little in the long run.

The 26-year-old has racked up 177 appearances for Man United since joining in 2019, scoring twice and providing three assists in the process. However, the defender has endured a difficult time this term, starting 13 matches across all competitions for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Crystal Palace are still interested in signing Wan-Bissaka, who made his breakthrough at Selhurst Park, while he has also been tipped to join Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr after they turned their attention to the Red Devils defender after being snubbed by Tottenham in a swoop for Emerson Royal.

However, an offer is seemingly yet to arrive United’s way, and the defender could now land a new long-term deal at Manchester United, with the club not expecting him to leave ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The Red Devils could be open to allowing Wan-Bissaka to leave in the summer when they will have enough time to find a suitable replacement, withe the name of Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong high on their radar.
