Tottenham will reportedly look to complete a late move for Chelsea mainstay Conor Gallagher, who will cost around £80 million.
According to a report by Football Insider, Conor Gallagher is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The North London giants are lining up a last-gasp move to sign the 23-year-old Chelsea mainstay. Meanwhile, the Blues want £80 million to part ways with the midfielder in the January transfer window.
Conor Gallagher and his Rise at Chelsea
Conor Gallagher has done well to carve out a place for himself in the Chelsea midfield. The English international had to bide his time and spend time away on loan before establishing a foothold at Chelsea. And he has been a dependable performer for the West London club in the last 18 months.
The 23-year-old grew in stature in the 2022/23 season but has risen even further this term. He has turned out 28 times thus far in the ongoing campaign, chipping in with six assists. Gallagher has also donned the captain’s armband for much of 2023/24 in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell.
But Conor Gallagher faces an uncertain future at Chelsea as he has entered the final 18 months of his contract. Such a situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many clubs. In particular, Tottenham Hotspur will look to secure his services before the January transfer window shuts down.
Tottenham Want Conor Gallagher
Gallagher’s contract situation weakens Chelsea’s bargaining position. But they have still slapped a high price tag on him and will demand £80 million to part ways with him. While that is seemingly an excessive valuation, Tottenham will unlikely give up on securing his services.
Recent reports have claimed that Conor Gallagher is not a part of Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term plans at Chelsea. But the Chelsea boss does not want to sanction his sale this month. Nonetheless, Tottenham will look to land the 23-year-old with a last-gasp bid to sign him.
It is unclear if a last-ditch offer will do the trick, considering Chelsea will demand £80 million to sell him. But it will be interesting to see if a move across London sees the light of day for Gallagher.
