Newcastle United ready to cash in on Joelinton

Joelinton could be on his way out of Newcastle United

According to Football Insider, Premier League side Newcastle United could opt to sell Brazilian star Joelinton in the 2024 transfer window.

A key cog in the Tyneside club’s rise to prominence, Joelinton has been a sensational acquisition for Eddie Howe’s side. The South American has been at the club since 2019 and has since amassed 180 appearances across all competitions, scoring 25 goals and assisting 15 more.

A versatile player, the 27-year-old can don several roles in attack and midfield. In fact, he started off as a centre-forward and largely spent his formative years playing up front or out wide on the wing. It was not a role that he thrived in at St James Park.

Eddie Howe’s arrival was the tonic Joelinton needed to resurrect his career in white and black. The English manager shifted the Brazilian to a midfield role, a position that did justice to his immense athleticism and physicality. Add to it the Brazilian’s no-nonsense style and Newcastle got themselves an all-action midfielder who dominated the middle of the park.

Joelinton has already since made himself a regular for the Brazilian national side. However, it is entirely possible that he has played his last game for Newcastle. This is because the Magpies are considering cashing in on their star man.

The midfielder’s contract with Newcastle expires in 2025 and as of yet, Joelinton is yet to pen a new deal. This has annoyed decision-makers at the club and a sale could be sanctioned for the right price. The 27-year-old does not appear keen to pen a new deal and this could very well force Newcastle’s hand.

Currently out injured, Joelinton is out of action until May, meaning there is every reason to believe he might have played his final game for the club. His unavailability might draw the curtains on a January exit, but a summer transfer could yet be possible.

Losing a key player, let alone one in his prime is a blow for the Magpies. However, they are better off cashing in rather than allowing Joelinton to run his deal down. It should prove to be an interesting few months as we wait to see how this standoff develops.
