Newcastle United won’t be able to afford Ederson in January

Newcastle United could part ways with Eddie Howe following what has been a poor start to the season for the club. .

Newcastle United have hit a major roadblock in their pursuit of the 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder Ederson.

According to a report by Football Insider, Newcastle United are interested in the services of Ederson. The Magpies are keen on reinforcing their midfielder in the ongoing window and they have their eyes on the 24-year-old Atalanta midfielder. But, they can’t go through this deal because of financial reasons.

Ederson parted ways with Corinthians in the winter of 2022 to join Salernitana. And, thanks to his impressive performances over the next six months, Atalanta signed him in the following summer window. The 24-year-old has since gone from strength to strength.

He has become one of the mainstays of the Italian club of late. In the ongoing season, he has featured in a total of 27 matches and has contributed with six goals and an assist. The former Brazil youth international’s impressive performances have attracted a lot of attention and Newcastle are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks.

The Magpies had a sensational season last time out but they haven’t been able to back it up this time out. Numerous injuries and the ban placed on Sandro Tonali for illegal betting haven’t helped their cause. Eddie Howe feels they need reinforcement to have a better second half and the club is trying to fulfil their manager’s desire.

Newcastle United would love to sign Ederson from Atalanta but the Italian club are not ready to negotiate his departure. They do not want to part ways with him in the winter with him still having over 2 years left on his deal. The Italian clubs value him at £30-40 million, a figure that the Magpies can’t afford to pay at this stage.

They do not have the best of financial situations and need to keep their spending in check to ensure they are in line with the Financial Fair Play regulations. The report even suggests that they might even have to sell one of their stars to balance their books. As a result, Ederson won’t be making the move to England in the winter. However, the Magpies could return in the summer when they will have a better financial situation.
