Newcastle United weighing up Keylor Navas swoop

Newcastle United are interested in acquiring the services of the 37-year-old Paris Saint Germain shot-stopper Keylor Navas.

According to a report by Fichajes, Newcastle United are keen on having Keylor Navas in the ranks. The Magpies want to reinforce their squad in the ongoing transfer window and they feel the need to have a new goalkeeper in their ranks.

Navas was a part of the Real Madrid team that dominated Europe. He joined the Spanish giants back in the summer of 2014 and had a successful five-year-long stint. During his time at the club, he helped them win the Champions League three times in a row.

When his stint with Madrid ended, he made a move to France in order to join Paris Saint Germain. He was a regular in the first team in the initial years, but the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma changed things up. The 37-year-old was no longer the first choice in goal. He ended up having a six-month-long loan stint at Nottingham Forest last season in search of regular first-team football.

Navas returned to his parent club last summer and has ended up staying at PSG for the 2023/24 season but things have been improved one bit. While injury has forced him to miss quite a few matches, it hasn’t changed the fact that he often found himself on the bench, even if he was fit enough to play. The player wants more minutes and that is unlikely to happen at PSG.

But, Newcastle United are ready to give him away out. The Magpies suffered a huge blow when Nick picked up an injury. While Eddie Howe initially wanted to try and cover with Martin Dubravka, he now feels the need to reinforce the goalkeeping position and sees an opportunity in Navas.

He might be 37 but he is still a top-quality keeper and can surely provide competition to Dubravka for a place in the starting XI. As a result, the Magpies want to sign the former Real Madrid shot-stopper on a six-month-long loan.

While the player is keen on making love as he seeks more minutes, PSG might not give it the green light as the player’s contract runs out in six months. This move might force them to terminate his contract. As a result, all parties will have to be on similar terms to get it over the line.
