West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old English winger Jack Clarke from Sunderland.
According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Jack Clarke is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The 23-year-old has been excellent in the 2023/24 season thus far. But Sunderland will not entertain any offers to part ways with the in-form winger in the January transfer window.
Who is Jack Clarke?
Jack Clarke has come leaps and bounds since joining Sunderland from Tottenham Hotspur. A native of York, the Englishman spent all his formative years with Leeds United before arriving at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. But he did not receive enough opportunities to make his mark in the first team at the North London club.
Instead, he embarked on four loan spells away from Tottenham before joining Sunderland. The Black Cats had also initially secured Clarke’s services on a temporary deal before completing a permanent transfer in July 2022. Since then, the 23-year-old winger has gone from strength to strength.
The English winger has been the brightest spot in Sunderland’s campaign thus far, amassing 12 goals and two assists in 26 Championship outings. His progress at the Wearside club has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Premier League clubs. And West Ham United will look to bring him back to the top flight this month.
A Premier League Return on the Cards?
Other Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace, have also shown interest in Jack Clarke. And Tottenham Hotspur can benefit from the youngster’s move to a top-flight club. So, West Ham United joining the race to sign the 23-year-old English winger is good news for the North London club.
The Hammers have also shown interest in other attackers, including Steven Bergwijn. But Clarke might be a low-cost solution to West Ham United’s requirements in the final third. With Said Benrahma facing an uncertain future, West Ham can do with an offensive reinforcement. But Sunderland will not entertain any offers for the Englishman.
The Black Cats are in the fight for promotion in the EFL Championship and will not want to part ways with their top scorer this term. So, it will be interesting to see if West Ham can somehow convince Sunderland to sell Jack Clarke before the January transfer window shuts down.
