Arsenal are in talks with Everton for Belgian star Amadou Onana
According to Sacha Tavolieri via X, Premier League giants Arsenal are in negotiations with Everton for Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana.
Arsenal Bolstered Their Midfield in the Summer
The Gunners went big last summer to bring in Declan Rice and Kai Havertz in midfield. However, the loss of Granit Xhaka to Bayer Leverkusen and Thomas Partey to injury have seen them surrender the edge in the middle of the park.
Onana is just 22 and has been at Goodison Park since the summer of 2022. He has since established himself as one of the Toffees’ best players and is a key part of Sean Dyche’s jigsaw at the Premier League club.
Amadou Onana to Arsenal Soon?
The 2024 January transfer window presents an incredible opportunity for Mikel Arteta and Co. to add to their roster. Onana’s ability on the ball combined with his athletic prowess will add much dynamism to the Arsenal roster. He will certainly add bite in the middle of the pitch and add to Arsenal’s high-tempo style of football.
The player, for his part, is keen to stay put in the Premier League. Arsenal can offer him just that while also offering him the opportunity to take his game to the next level. While Everton might be a historically significant club, they are far from being able to challenge for honours anytime soon.
Talks between both clubs are ongoing and negotiations could become clearer in the days to come. Onana’s deal at Goodison Park runs until 2027, giving the Toffees an edge in negotiations. While they can play hardball, it remains to be seen if Onana is willing to see out the campaign battling relegation rather than perhaps aid Arsenal’s resurgence in the Premier League title tilt.
A no-nonsense tackler who is also adept in aerial combat, Onana ticks the boxes of the modern-day central midfielder. His ability to push forward will add a new dimension to the Gunners roster which is far too reliant on Martin Odergaard for creativity. Having him share the space with Onana with Declan Rice mopping up behind certainly adds a fresh twist to the flavour at the Emirates.
Just what Everton will seek one exchange for losing a star player midway through the campaign remains to be seen. Adding Onana to the squad will certainly future proof the role at Arsenal for years to come.
